Run by Alan and Dorothy Peel, the resident owners for the last seven years, Saule des Bois consists of three gites, two of which are situated around a floodlit swimming pool and a third separate gite adjacent to the pool and overlooking the carp ponds and gardens.
VIENNE is our largest gite and consists of three double bedrooms, one of which can accommodate various arrangements including two sets of bunk beds.
There are two bathrooms, one with shower, vanity unit, toilet etc. the other with bath and shower unit, vanity unit, toilet.
There is a separate fitted kitchen diner with double sink, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, microwave, full cooker and a table seating 6 to 8 people. This adjoins a large private patio, with garden furniture and BBQ.
The separate sitting room, with TV,DVD, has direct access onto the poolside terrace and gardens. One of the settees in this room can be folded down to provide an extra bed, if required.
VENDEE
This is a two bed-roomed cottage comprising one double room and a twin-bedded room, both of which have direct access to the poolside terrace via French windows. The lounge/dining area has a double outlook across the pool terrace and over the gardens to the forest. There is a galley kitchen equipped with fridge, full gas cooker and microwave oven and all necessary crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils. We also provide a radio/CD player. Vendee has a shower room with tiled shower area, vanity unit and WC.
Outside the main entrance door is a private patio area overlooking the pool and gardens with patio table and chairs, BBQ, sun umbrella etc.
The gite has free use of the separate laundry facilities.
PETITS CHAUMES
This pretty cottage with wisteria and rose covered walls has been recently converted from an old stable. Set adjacent to the pool area, its outlook is across lawns towards the ponds.
The accommodation comprises a double bedroom, a twin bedroom and a further bed on a mezzanine floor above. There is a fitted kitchen, equipped with cooker, fridge and microwave, coffee machine and all the usual kitchen utensils. We also provide a radio/CD player. The lounge/dining area has exposed stone walls and beamed ceilings with double doors leading out onto a patio area and garden with BBQ and patio furniture.
The fully tiled shower room has a vanity unit, w.c. and shower.
This cottage has convenient parking and enjoys the use of the adjacent swimming pool, gamesroom laundry room and extensive gardens
The gite has free use of the separate laundry facilities.
Set in some two acres of landscaped gardens which attract an abundance of wildlife and birds including kingfishers, woodpeckers, hoopoes and even the occasional golden oriel, the grounds offer a tranquil setting for a relaxing holiday and as a base for exploring this interesting and historic area.
The National forest, (L’Hermitan) is easily accessible to walkers and cyclists on peaceful roads, whilst horse-riding is available at a nearby riding centre.
The pond, which is stocked with carp, is at the disposal of guests. For the more enthusiastic fisherman, there is a choice of fishing lakes nearby, one of which has leisure facilities and a sandy beach. On site, we have table tennis, badminton, table football, volleyball and boules and of course our 10m x 5m floodlit swimming-pool, which is fitted with a alarm which complies with current French safety legislation.
Each site has its own portable BBQ but there is a larger communal BBQ in the grounds with outdoor dining area which can seat up to fifteen people.
As well as the tranquillity of the countryside, Saule des Bois is an ideal centre for touring and sightseeing with La Rochelle and the Atlantic coast, Cognac, the Loire Valley and Futuroscope at Poitiers all within easy day trip distance. In the locality, there are numerous pretty and historic towns and villages to explore.
